British Science Week 2025: Igniting STEM Minds at BYITC

British Science Week is here and is being celebrated all around during 7th – 16th March 2025. To mark the week, British Youth International College (BYITC, Supermaths), is celebrating with a series of exciting STEM events designed to ignite curiosity and innovation in young learners. From Python coding challenges to science-themed contests and webinars, we’re making this week an unforgettable experience!

This year marks a significant milestone for BYITC as we introduce science as a core part of our curriculum, reinforcing our commitment to STEM education. British Science Week is the perfect opportunity to showcase how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics shape the world around us.

British Science Week at BYITC: A Month of STEM Exploration

To commemorate British Science Week, we have hosted a variety of engaging activities, ensuring that children not only learn science but experience it in action!

1. BYITC Science Webinar – A Gateway to Discovery

Our British Science Week webinar explored the water cycle and its vital role in life. Using a real-time experiment in our BYITC Virtual Lab, kids saw evaporation, condensation, and precipitation in action. Quizzes and discussions sparked curiosity, while new ideas on water conservation made learning interactive and fun.

2. “Science Around Us” Photo Contest – A Creative STEM Initiative

We launched the “Science Around Us” Photo Contest, encouraging young learners to capture science in action. Whether it was a photo of a light-reflecting raindrop or a stunning image of a growing plant, children submitted their best science-themed photos with creative captions.

The Science Photo Contest winners amazed us with their creativity and took home exciting prizes:

  • Venisha Valluri – Won 1st place and a Science Kit for her brilliant capillary action experiment.
  • Shaurya Sankhe – Secured 2nd place and a BYITC Scholarship by showcasing how salt particles can hold up an egg straight.
  • Rajalakshmi – Took 3rd place and a Science Exploration Book for demonstrating the eviction of darkness through a light bulb.

This contest aligned perfectly with British Science Week, reinforcing the idea that science is everywhere, not just in textbooks!

3. Python Coding Challenge – The Future of STEM & AI

No British Science Week celebration would be complete without technology! As part of our STEM curriculum expansion, BYITC hosted an exciting Python Coding Challenge for children aged 8 to 14. This coveted title was won by GhaniRahan Sriramula, a 14-year-old from London, UK.This free event on 22nd February 2025 helped young coders:

a. Solve real-world coding problems

b. Develop computational thinking and logic

c. Gain hands-on experience in Python, the language of AI and data science

British Science Week is all about preparing children for the future, and coding is a fundamental skill that opens doors to careers in AI, machine learning, and data science. Our Python Coding Classes continue to provide children with a head start in technology and problem-solving beyond this challenge.

4. Maths Prodigy Hunt – Preparing for the International Maths Olympiad

As British Science Week celebrates innovation, we’re also spotlighting mathematics as the foundation of STEM. Our abacus maths programme helps children develop strong calculation skills and makes children “human calculators”, and we’re gearing up for the International Maths Olympiad from 24 – 29 March, where young mathematicians will compete on a global virtual stage.

The Future of STEM at BYITC

While British Science Week is an annual celebration, at BYITC, STEM education is a year-round mission. Our upcoming initiatives include:

a. More Science Webinars – Featuring expert speakers and interactive discussions.

b. Advanced Coding Challenges – Helping kids build real-world tech skills.

c. STEM Curriculum Expansion – Ensuring children have access to hands-on learning experiences.

Join the BYITC Science & Coding Revolution!

British Science Week has been an exciting journey of discovery, but this is just the beginning! At BYITC, we believe that science and coding should be an adventure, and we are dedicated to guiding young learners on their STEM journey. Don’t miss out on our upcoming STEM events! Stay connected and be part of a future where every child is empowered through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics!
