Abacus Maths Challenge 2018
The ABACUS Winter Maths Challenge 2018 will be held on the 20th of January from 2 pm – 4 pm, at the Community Central Hall in Maryhill (292 – 316 Maryhill Rd, Glasgow G20 7YE).
The Maths Challenge runs twice every year and is an excellent opportunity to motivate and encourage the children to practise their maths skills. During the competition, the children will be able to experience stimulated learning within a fun and supportive environment. The abacus approach to learning maths has been found to have various benefits to children; including improved confidence and positive mathematical experiences. This makes entering the competition a highly worthwhile experience for the children!
All the students, whether they are Friday, Wednesday, or Saturday class students (both 11 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm) are required to come at 2 pm on the 20th of January and attend their usual class from 2 pm – 3 pm. This class will be followed by an awards ceremony.
The timetable for the event is as follows:
2 pm – 3 pm – Maths Challenge
3 pm – 4 pm – Marking and awards
The challenge will include children being assessed based on their use of the Abacus tool, Finger theory and Mental Theory questions. Children will be grouped based on the level that they have completed by that time, and they will be marked based on both their speed and accuracy.
Each group will be eligible to win a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place and these winners will receive a certificate, gift and a trophy. All students that are coming to the ABACUS classes are required to attend the Abacus Winter Math’s Challenge.
